HEY NOW PODCAST Episode 3 – Ethan Cohen
In episode 3 of the Hey Now Podcast, Ethan Cohen, CEO of Hemaptics at University Hospitals, delved into his experience as a serial entrepreneur and his work with the blood management solution company. Hemaptics aims to reduce transfusion utilization in medical settings, which was developed by a team of co-inventors at University Hospitals.
Cohen’s involvement with Hemaptics began when Ventures, a commercialization arm under University Hospitals, brought him on board as an executive in residence to help with some of their projects. Hemaptics technology has been tested internally at University Hospitals and has proven to be successful. The company decided to establish an LLC and license the technology for commercialization efforts, and Cohen has been helping in this regard.
The focus of Hemaptics is to validate its results and potential benefits by piloting the technology at other healthcare systems. The company is primarily targeting nationwide large academic medical centers as these institutions are where the technology can be best utilized.
Cohen believes that entrepreneurs need to invest time in the discovery process to understand their clients’ needs and validate the critical pain points that their business addresses. Without addressing a critical pain point, it is hard to get individuals to change their habits, even when a solution is dramatically cheaper in price.
Hemaptics serves as a unique solution to reduce transfusion utilization in medical settings, and their team of co-inventors, co-working with Ventures and Cohen, aim to bring the technology to various healthcare systems across the US.
